The use of metal keys for opening hotel rooms is a thing of the past already. Today, most hotels now offer high-tech hotel key cards switch, which allow their guests easy access to their rooms. Key card systems switch off electricity automatically when guest rooms are vacated, and thus avoid useless consumption of electricity (TV, lights…).
Our energy saver hotel key card switch helps improve your guests’ comfort and reduce your energy costs.

The typical occupancy rate for a hotel is 65%. Of that 65%, a guest is generally in the room only 40% of the time, usually to sleep. This means that there is a significant amount of time when you are needlessly heating, cooling or lighting an unoccupied space.

Our energy saver acts as the main electrical switch for the room and is operated by the guest’s AV&T key card switch . All lighting and heating facilities only become operational once a corresponding card is inserted in it’s card key switch.

When the key card is removed from it’s slot, the controlled circuits remain empowered for a further 10-30 seconds to ensure a safe exit from the room before the power is turned off. Our energy saver key card switch can completely replace traditional energy saving switches.

Implementation

• Power supply can be maintained to some devices (minibar for example) when the room is not occupied. In this case the key card installation must be appropriately wired.

• Automatic control of power supply to guest rooms depending on occupancy can also be integrated into a building energy management system, if any. In this case electricity controls are generally linked to the room heating/cooling system. When keys are returned to the reception desk both heating and power are shut off in the room.

How does a Key Card Switch Work?

Key Card Switches are generally used in hotels and high end condominiums.  After check-in verification in hotels, the front desk personnel will give the guest a key card to his/her assigned room. Upon getting into the assigned room and inserting the key card in a key card slot by the main door of the room, all the lights and other controlled circuits will automatically turn on. Upon leaving the room, guests remove the key card and the lights and other controlled circuits will turn off after a standby delay of a few seconds. This is to ensure that the guest/s have safely exited the room before the power turns off. Aside from the aesthetically appealing design, hospitality establishments install key card switches to help reduce energy costs. This is because all lighting, heating and power (aside from the refrigerator) circuits only become operational once the card is inserted in the key card slot.
